Santa Lucía
Santa Lucía , pronounced [ˈsanta luˈsi.a] in Spanish, is a municipality in Nicaragua's Boaco department. With an estimated population of 10,300 in 2006, it spans 120.78 km². The hamlet of Santa Lucía , which is 94 kilometers from Managua, is the capital. About 28% of people reside in metropolitan regions, and 72% of people live in rural areas.
Overview:
With about 2,200 small farmers spread across the entire municipality, agriculture is the primary driver of the economy. Some agropecuarian operations are also present.[Reference required]
The Constitutional Liberal Party (PLC)'s Elba Maria Salinas Guzmán is the mayor of the municipality of Santa Lucía .
History:
During the Spanish colonial era, the town of Santa Lucía was a part of the municipality of Teustepe and was called Potreritos, which translates to "small pasturelands." Later on, the town was renamed in Saint Lucy's honor.[Reference required]
The town of Santa Lucía became the capital of the municipality of the same name and a part of the department of Boaco on August 16, 1904.
Local festivities:
The dates are December 10–17 in honor of Saint Lucy.[Needs clarification] On February 12 and 13, the celebrations continue. Religious activities, popular fiestas, and corridas are all part of the municipality's celebration of its patron.
